Giving a twist to the recent controversy created by Kangana Ranaut on her remark about India’s independence, Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale has defended her.
Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale while backing Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut over her recent remark about India’s independence said that many leaders became mute spectators when freedom fighters were being hanged.
Vikram Gokhale is a veteran Marathi actor who came down in the support of Kangana Ranaut over her controversial remark that India got its independence in 2014 and not in 1947 and we got independence “bheek” (alms) and the country actually got real freedom when Narendra Modi became our prime minister.
This is what Gokhale said while speaking at a function in Maharashtra, “I agree with Ranaut’s statement. We were given freedom. Many people were just mute spectators when freedom fighters were hanged (during the British raj). These mute spectators included many senior leaders. They didn’t save the freedom fighters who were fighting against the British,” said Gokhale, who is known for his roles in Marathi theatre, Bollywood and television.

He stated that like many other parties, BJP also tries to get benefit from such controversies.
On the isue of political scenario in Maharashtra, he said that both BJP and its long time ally Shiv Sena should come together for the betterment of the country.
This is what he said, “BJP and Shiv Sena should come together again. I questioned (opposition leader and former Maharashtra chief minister) Devendra Fadnavis about the possible alliance between the two parties on the condition of sharing the post of CM for equal years. Both parties should try to win the people’s confidence. I feel political parties should not deceive people because people can punish them,” he said.
