Padma Awards 2020: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and singer Adnan Sami are conferred with Padma Shri awards in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

 

As per schedule, the Padma Awards 2020 and 2021 were held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 8. The awards were given by none other than President of India Shri Ramnath Kovind.

The award distribution ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The awardees hailed from a variety of fields like education, music, cinema, arts, sports and agriculture.

Among those felicitated were Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and singer Adnan Sami. Kangana was awarded for her immense contribution towards Indian cinema whereas Adnan Sami was awarded for his role in singing.

There were others in the list of those getting felicitated with Padma Awards including filmmakers Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor.

 

 

As you might be aware of, the Padma Shri awards happen to be the highest civilian awards of the country. These awards are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day.

These awards are meant to be given in 3 categories like Padma Shri (distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (for distinguished service of higher-order) and Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service).

 

 

All the above awards are given to the citizens of India to felicitate his/her contribution towards the society.

 

 

As per the announcement, this year, a total of 119 Padma Awards are to be given. The list includes 102 Padma Shri Awards, 7 Padma Vibhushan and 10 Padma Bhushan.

Out of these awards to be given, 29 of the awardees are women, 1 transgender awardee and 16 are Posthumous awardees.
