George Miller, who’s a renowned Australian director returns to Cannes after his last adult fairy tale titled Mad Max: Fury Road’.
The director’s upcoming film ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba received an unexpected 6-minute standing ovation right after its world premiere held at Cannes’ Palais theater.
A love letter to storytelling and its tropes and parables passed down through history, “Three Thousand Years” follows a solitary academic (Swinton) and a burdened genie (Elba) she finds in a bottle in the markets of Istanbul. His history unfolds in the stories of those who had found him before.
As per the latest update, half of the film is reported to have spent in a hotel room which is almost same as Agatha Christie lived when she was made to write “Murder on the Orient Express,” a bellhop tells Swinton).
The audience at Cannes looked overjoyed with Elba and Swinton trying to hang out in their respective bathrobes. They were seen bickering over the ethics as soon as the film starts giving way to the love story.

At Cannes, ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ starring Swinton and Elba shared a warm hug at the time of the film’s post screening standing ovation. When this happened, Miller looked emphatic and told the crowd, “I’m very, very grateful.”
The film looks promising which essentially looks a two hander between Ilba and Swinton, while supporting roles are being played by the likes of Matteo Bocelli, Burcu Gölgedar and Aamito Lagum.
Miller is known to have penned the script of the film which is based on a collection of short stories by A.S Byatt.
Miller is also known to have reunited a number of his last film “Mad Max: Fury Road” team for his new production which include composer Tom Holkenborg, cinematographer John Seale, and editor Margaret Sixel.
Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” is a film which is getting all the praises at Cannes 2022. He last attended the festival with “Mad Max: Fury Road which had managed to gross $374 million worldwide.
Not only that, “Fury Road” was nominated with as many as 10 Oscars that included best director and best picture award. The film won as many as 6 awards. “Three Thousand Years of Longing” premiered out of competition at Cannes.
Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” is releasing in theaters on August 31, 2022.
