Jason Momoa, renowned for his iconic portrayal of Aquaman, is charting a new course. Following his successful run as Arthur Curry in the Aquaman franchise and other DC films, Momoa is making a splash in James Gunn’s DCU (DC Universe) as the notorious anti-hero, Lobo.
This shift has ignited immense excitement and anticipation in the comic book community, as reported by Variety.
Momoa’s rendition of Aquaman injected vitality into the DCEU. Renowned for his commanding presence and magnetism, his portrayal of Arthur Curry earned widespread adoration among fans.
His debut as Aquaman began with a cameo in Batman v Superman, followed by appearances in Justice League (2017). However, his standalone venture in Aquaman (2018) truly resonated with audiences and critics alike.
As the upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, slated for release later this year, approaches, it marks Momoa’s final performance as the half-human, half-Atlantean superhero
The temptation of Lobo
Lobo, dubbed the Main Man in the DC Universe, holds a special place as an unconventional and cherished character.
With his anarchic, profanity-laden demeanor and larger-than-life biker persona, Lobo seamlessly aligns with Jason Momoa’s distinct style.
The character, a bounty hunter boasting superhuman strength and remarkable regenerative powers, frequently embarks on tumultuous and unforeseeable escapades.
The James Gunn connection
James Gunn, recognized for his directorial prowess in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, initially joined the DCEU to helm The Suicide Squad (2021).
However, his role expanded, alongside his producing partner Peter Safran, to oversee the new DCU, assuming co-CEO positions at DC Studios.
Presently, indications suggest that none of the original actors from the Justice League ensemble will reprise their respective roles within the DCU.
