Marvel Studio’s VP Nate Moore has confirmed that the character played by late Chadwick Boseman as King T’Challa or Black Panther won’t be recast.
The decision was taken after the tragic demise of the actor. Although, the above decision was always in place, it has made T’Challa fans unhappy.
This is what Moore confirmed to The Ringer-verse Podcast, “I’m being quite honest, you will not see T’Challa in the MCU.”
The decision taken is being unanimous and not taken by an individual. While clarifying his point, Moore revealed that before taking the final decision, he even discussed it with Ryan Coogler who is soon returning to direct ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’. But they finally came to the conclusion that they can’t go ahead with the character without Boseman.
This is what he shared, “We have to figure out how to move this franchise on without that character. Because I think we all feel so much of T’Challa in the MCU on the screen… is tied to Chadwick’s performance. The challenge for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is telling a story without T’Challa.
After they announced the new development, many Twitter users condemned the decision by posting their comments. One user wrote that it would certainly be dishonoring the legacy that Boseman left behind.
While another user stated, “I really wish they would recast bc he’s such an iconic character whose arc wasn’t even complete.”
I understand honoring Chadwick boseman but to completely not use tchalla ever again kinda sucks to me and I really wish they would recast bc he’s such an iconic character who’s arc wasn’t even complete

Take a look at the reaction of one of the fans on social media.
Y'all have convinced yourselves that this "only Boseman can be T'Challa" rhetoric is some great honor, but y'all are dishonoring everything this man stood for as an artist and actor. How can you hear this man speak and then advocate for the erasure of a black role like T'Challa? pic.twitter.com/hLUvSkdFbD

Chadwick passed away in August 2020. From the very beginning, he wanted the ‘Black Panther’ story to press ahead with the story following his tragic death.
I’m really mixed on this because while I think that Chadwick Boseman is irreplaceable as T’Challa, I also think he’d want the character to continue in the movies and inspire more people. https://t.co/TBEi2Z4UPS

There is room for BLACK PANTHER: WF to address T'Challa's absence (+ give family/friends/fans space to mourn Chadwick Boseman), before casting a new T'Challa for #BlackPanther 3.
Recasting doesn't undo/diminish Boseman's time & ppl need to stop pretending otherwise. #MCU #Marvel pic.twitter.com/kx206AI8fl

I think Chadwick Boseman was an unbelievably gifted soul who gave the world the best of himself, selflessly. Beyond his work, just a few moments spent in his presence made that crystal clear.
However, T’Challa should be recast. And I think it should be…

mcu deciding to not recast t’challa, even after chadwick boseman’s family gave their blessing, is a fumble of incredible proportions

Journalist Roland Martin has the receipts saying that Chadwick Boseman wanted T'Challa to continue on after him. Boseman's own brother has said that they wanted the character recast. The longtime fans want the character to continue. What argument is left? #NoTchallaNoTicket pic.twitter.com/2Vm8tZXRJL

This is what the filmmaker stated, “You’ve got to keep going when you lose loved ones. I know Chad wouldn’t have wanted us to stop.”
“He was somebody who was so about the collective ‘Black Panther’, that was his movie. He was hired to play that role before anybody else was even thought of, before I was hired, before any of the actresses were hired.”
As per Coogler, directing the sequel without Boseman was the hardest task of his film career.
He said, “You have a professional life, you’ve got a personal life. Personal life, I’m going to say when you work in something that you love, those things blend, they come together.
“I’m trying to find a work-life balance. But I’m not there yet, so this is without question the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my professional life.”
