Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 witnessed several delays in completing the project. One of the reasons happened to be the Covid-19 crisis in the country.

But now, the story is different. The first part of the most awaiting adaptation based on the epic novel has been completed and is titled ‘Ponniyin Selvan-1.

Ponniyin Selvan is the most desired project of the ace director Mani Ratnam which is produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies. The music in this film is given by none other than AR Rahman.

Now, the latest is that the makers have officially announced the film’s release date which is September 30, 2022.

The story of Ponniyin Selvan Part-1 revolves around 10th century and takes us back in the Chola Empire. It highlighted the struggle between a number of branches of the ruling family that ended up in violent rifts.

Along with the release date of Ponniyin Selvan Part-1, the makers also released the first look poster of Trisha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Vikram.

Ponniyin Selvan Part-1 narrates an adventurous story where evil schemers, cunning spies and brave soldiers come together to win an empire for themselves. There are chances of a civil war until scores can be settled.

The entire military and political drama slowly leads to the Cholas that becomes the most eminent and powerful empire in the entire continent. It also get the chance to become the most successful one on the country.

Ponniyin Selvan Part-1 has been under production for the last several years. As it is a magnum opus film, it’s made on a huge budget along with such a huge star cast including Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Trisha ,Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Prakash Raj, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Vikram in their respective pivotal roles.

It was in December 2019 when Ponniyin Selvan had gone on floors, but the entire shooting scheduled had to be put on halt for approximately 9 months due to COVID-19 pandemic.
