Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Trial: The ongoing legal battle between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp has resulted in a verdict that many people won’t appreciate. As per the court’s order, Heard has to pay up to $15 million in abuse claim defamation trial.
The above verdict is a clear indication that the jury took them into consideration while passing the order. It looked to them as if Amber Heard faked her own injuries in the defamation case for trial.
As we go in detail of the verdict that was ordered today by a Virginia court, it clearly states that Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million in the form of his defamation suit against his ex wife Amber Heard.
The order means jury was convinced about Johnny Depp’s claims about him getting abused when Heard wrote in The Washington Post calling herself a survivor who has been domestically abused.
Soon after the trial, the jury sentenced him to pay the amount to bear losses. In the entire proceeding, it looked as if Heard was handed a complete loss in the ongoing legal battle that basically revolved claims from Depp and her.
It was in the year 2016 when Heard divorced Depp after she managed to get a restraining order under domestic violence. Since then she has been dragged through as many as two trials to mainly substantiate her allegations that Depp actually abused her.
In the final legal proceedings, a jury comprising as many as 6 men and 3 women took up to 13 hours to make a verdict in the case. On the other hand Depp constantly urged that Heard lied about being abused.
The jury finally (during trials) observed that Heard simply acted with the highest level of recklessness that she found necessary to allege such a defamation against public figures.
Amber Heard to Finally Pay $15 Million In Abuse Claims Defamation Trial
According to the verdict, Johnny Depp was awarded a compensated benefit of $10 million along with $5 million as punitive damages.
On the other hand Heard managed to win only one out of three claims. The claim that she managed to win was that a particular statement from Depp’s lawyer side was defamatory.
After the proceeding, Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages. But she didn’t get anything in punitive damages.
This is what Heard stated in her statement, “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” she said. “I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.”
Heard added, “I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”
While Depp in his statement said, the decision by the jury “gave me my life back.”.
This is what Depp said, “From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome,” he said. “Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that.” he said.
