Suriya joined the entertainment world in the year 1997 when he signed his first film titled ‘Nerukku Ner‘. The Tamil language comedy drama was directed by Vasanth.

This is when the friendship of both Madhavan and Suriya actually started. The film originally had Vijay in the lead role.

You might be wondering how we came to know about this. Well, this is what has been revealed by Madhavan in one of the interviews where he says, “I am not sure how many people know, but me and Suriya have been friends since ‘Nerukku Ner’. While he was doing the film, I was called for a trials for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Iruvar’. I auditioned for the role but didn’t get through as Mani sir felt I was too young for the role after the screen test. I had met Suriya at that time when he was working on ‘Nerukku Ner’. At that time when I saw the film I think both and he and Vijay sir were phenomenal. Guess Suriya was intrigued about me as a totally different person and we became good friends.”

Three years later, Madhavan signed another film titled Alaipayuthey. This was the beginning of his Tamil debut with the director Mani Ratnam. After the film hit theatres, it garnered loads of appreciation from all directions.

Looking at the film’s success, Suriya also joined the bandwagon and appreciated him performing so nicely.

Like others, Suriya could not stop himself appreciating Madhavan and said, ‘You have killed it Maddy’.

He not only congratulated him for creating a magic with the film but also applauded him of becoming a Mani Ratnam Hero.

“I found him to be a very nice, genuine and straightforward person. He always has only good thoughts with him. He has never spoken ill about anyone, which is a very big quality. I like and admire this quality of his where he doesn’t talk bad about anyone else and more importantly about women. He is a through gentleman. So are Ajith and Vijay,” Madhavan revealed.

Later after working for Alaipayuthey in the year 2000, Madhavan got a chance to work in ‘Aaytha Ezhuthu’ in the year 2004. This time, he got a Mani Ratnam film and the company of his friend Suriya.

Currently, Suriya is all set to do a cameo role in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect which is going to be a Madhavan’s direction debut film.

As per the updates in this regard, this film is based on the life of Nambi Narayanan.

Nambi Narayanan is the former aerospace engineer and scientist at ISRO ( Indian Space Research Organisation).
