Ranveer Singh is set to portray Shaktimaan. That’s the news for the day. Last year, the superstar garnered immense love and admiration for his role as Rocky Randhawa in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. He was rumored to play the long-lost sibling of Poo from K3G, and audiences adored his performance in the film. It was speculated that after Karan Johar’s romantic comedy, Ranveer and Alia Bhatt would collaborate again for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra.
However, there was widespread shock when Sanjay Leela Bhansali revealed his next film, which features Alia Bhatt but not Ranveer. In fact, the movie stars two actors – Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal – and is titled “Love & War.” This suggests that the Baiju Bawra remake has been postponed indefinitely!
According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, Ranveer Singh had reportedly allocated his schedule to the Baiju Bawra remake after completing Don 3. However, due to the significant change of events, he swiftly shifted his focus to his next film and transferred all those dates to the superhero movie Shaktimaan, which will be a reboot of the Indian TV series starring Mukesh Khanna.
Once Ranveer shifted gears for the superhero flick, details about the film started circulating in Gupshup Gully. Here are five things you definitely need to know about Shaktimaan.
Table of Contents
Shaktimaan Film Budget
Given the heavy reliance on graphics and VFX, the film’s budget is estimated to fall between 300 crore and 350 crore. The team is determined not to compromise in this regard, as the VFX must be top-notch. This is essential because Ranveer’s character, a superhero, possesses the ability to traverse from one location to another in a fraction of a second.
Shaktimaan’s South Indian Villain
Currently, there is a high demand for South Indian directors and cast members. According to reports, Tovino Thomas, known for his role in Minnal Murali, has been approached to portray the villain Tamraj Kilvish in the show. He nearly confirmed this news about a year ago during a live conversation with his fans regarding his upcoming project.
Tamraj Kilvish – Pre-Production Work
Once Ranveer Singh gave the green light to the project, the team immediately began crafting the appearance of the characters, starting with the villain and his weaponry. Tamraj Kilvish was an iconic supervillain of Indian television, and his weapons must match his character’s stature. The Shaktimaan team is currently designing Tamraj Kilvish’s weapons for the film. Perhaps they will be as intriguing as Thor’s hammer or as straightforward as Captain America’s shield?!
Shaktimaan’s Crew
In addition to finalizing the cast, the crew for the film has also been confirmed. Basil Joseph, the Malayalam director behind the recent Indian superhero film Minnal Murali, has been appointed as the director. The writing duties have been assigned to the Minnal Murali writers Arun Anirudh and Justin Matthew, along with Durgesh Singh, known for his work on the series Gullak.
A Trilogy
Shaktimaan will be a trilogy. Initially, Sony Pictures was set to produce the film, with Mukesh Khanna onboard as co-producer. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, this collaboration fell through, and now Sajid Nadiadwala is producing the project.
It will be fascinating to see Ranveer Singh donning the Desi superhero suit adorned with a sunflower and two intersecting triangles. Are you as excited as we are?
