Most families of Astroworld victims who had to pay their lives at the cost of attending the concert have rejected Travis Scott’s offer to cover their funeral expenses.
One such victim is 9 year old Ezra who became target of concertgoers at the Astroworld festival. Although, his father Blount passed out safely out of the crowd, his son couldn’t resist but fell suffering fatal injuries.
He was the youngest who died at the expense of crowd surge happened on that fateful day.
Although, Scott immediately came forward and offered to pay for the funerals, the family of Blount rejected the offer made by the rapper. This is what Bob Hilliard (family’s attorney) stated to Scott’s attorney via an email. The same was received by NBC News.
Hilliard however, said that he finds no reason why Scott has no remorse over Ezra’s demise, he said he also wants Scott “must face and hopefully see that he bears some of the responsibility for this tragedy.”
“There may be, and I hope there is, redemption and growth for him on the other side of what this painful process will be — and perhaps one day, once time allows some healing for the victims and acceptance of responsibility by Mr. Scott and others, Treston and Mr. Scott might meet — as there is also healing in that,” Hilliard wrote. “For now, Mr. Scott must respect the fact that his pain and his devastation pale to Treston’s, Ezra’s mom, and the other victims.”
Ezra’s aunt who also came forward to speak on NBC News stated that she thinks that the crowd looked like a death trap.
“The crowd just started going crazy, and Treston goes, ‘I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe,'” she said.
In her interview, she recall that they couldn’t find little Erza and so had to call for local hospitals to find her.
“The Hilgerts are not about to allow someone else to pay for their son’s funeral. It was one of the last things they could do for their son,” he said. “But of all the things this case is about, this is the least of the family’s concern. The Hilgerts are set on making change and making sure this never happens again.”
This is what a spokesperson said, “We continue to support and assist local authorities in their ongoing investigation so that both the fans who attended and their families can get the answers they want and deserve, and we will address all legal matters at the appropriate time,” the spokesman said in a statement Friday.
On the other hand, a representative of Scott simply declined to make comment on the lawsuit filed against the rapper.
