A recently circulated video featured Ranbir Kapoor alongside his family, including Alia Bhatt, reportedly during India Today’s annual Christmas lunch at Kunal Kapoor’s residence.
The viral footage showed Kunal seated in front of the cake while Zahan Kapoor poured wine on it. Ranbir then lit the cake, uttering ‘Jai Mata Di,’ sparking the ensuing controversy, as per India Today’s report.
Sanjay Tiwari, represented by advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, lodged an FIR at the Ghatkopar police station, accusing Ranbir Kapoor and his family of causing offense to religious sentiments and insulting the Sanatan Dharm.
The complaint detailed, “In Hinduism, the fire god is traditionally invoked before other deities. Ranbir Kapoor and his family deliberately used intoxicants during celebrations of another religion’s festival and chanted ‘Jai Mata Di’.” Ranbir faces charges under sections 295 A, 298, 500, and 34. No complaints have been filed against the other members of the Kapoor family.
