Don Wilson, a rhythm guitarist and a co-founder for the influential instrumental rock band The Ventures, has died. He was 88.

It was Saint Bryan, a Seattle-based journalist who first broke the news. He simply shared a message from the family of Wilson on Twitter that actually confirmed the musician is no more.

The above message on Twitter was followed by a statement released by the family that stated, “Our dad was an amazing rhythm guitar player who touched people all over the world with his band, The Ventures. He will have his place in history forever and was much loved and appreciated. He will be missed,” This is what his son Tim told People.

All credit goes to Wilson who formed The Ventures in the year 1968 alongside bassist Bog Bogle.

At that time they both worked as construction workers in Seattle. After a span of two years, their cover of Johnny Smith’s ‘Walk, Don’t Run’ reached Number Two on the Billboard Hot 100.

With the passage of time, the band further went to sell over 100 million records.

The Ventures are further credited of popularizing the electric guitar among musicians. Soon the brand became one of the best selling instrumental brand of all time.

After they performed exceptionally well, the brand were finally included in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame (2008). This is what John Fogerty stated, “‘Walk, Don’t Run’ started a whole new movement in rock and roll. “The sound of it became ‘surf music’ and the audacity of it empowered guitarists everywhere.” he said.

Soon after the news broke, a plethora of other tributes began to share on various social networking sites. Take a look at some of them below:
