With an opening weekend haul of $49.9 million, Japan’s animated fantasy Suzume achieved an outstanding debut at the Chinese box office. Akaza’s Return could surpass the existing benchmark and set a new standard for Japanese animated releases in China.
Looking at thye current trend, the film may also achieve one of the top three opening day spots for non-Chinese films in China’s post-COVID box office history.
