In Short:

  • Ryozo Tsujimoto, the senior producer of Monster Hunter Wilds, will step into the role of Chief Product Officer at Capcom on April 1, 2025
  • Tsujimoto will shortly take charge of all three Consumer Games divisions at Capcom
  • Monster Hunter Wilds saw tremendous success, ranking as the second most-played game on Steam just hours after its launch

Capcom recently appointed Ryozo Tsujimoto, the senior producer of Monster Hunter Wilds, as its new Chief Product Officer.

With Yoichi Egawa departing from the role, Tsujimoto, who has played a crucial role in the Monster Hunter series will step in. His promotion is a testament to his impact on the franchise and the outstanding success of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Just hours after release, Monster Hunter Wilds soared to the second most-played game on Steam and secured the fourth spot on the PlayStation Store. Despite some technical issues and launch-day challenges, the game has seen immense popularity.

The game’s launch shattered records, marking a major milestone for both Capcom and the gaming industry, as its concurrent player count on Steam continues to grow. With such success, it’s only natural that a pivotal figure behind the title is being promoted within Capcom.

As reported by VGC, Tsujimoto is set to take over as Capcom’s Chief Product Officer on April 1, 2025, following Egawa’s departure.

In this role, he will oversee all three of Capcom’s Consumer Games divisions, while the company’s pachinko operations, previously managed by Egawa, will now fall under the supervision of CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto.

As a result, the Monster Hunter senior producer will now oversee teams developing major titles like Resident Evil 9 and its speculated open-world design, along with franchises such as Street Fighter and Devil May Cry.

While he will have increased authority over the Monster Hunter series, his involvement will likely be more strategic than direct.

Since joining Capcom in 1996, Tsujimoto began his career working on arcade games like Battle Circuit.

He later became involved with the Monster Hunter franchise, contributing to Monster Hunter Freedom as part of the planning team before stepping into a producer role for Monster Hunter Tri.

While Monster Hunter Wilds has enjoyed outstanding sales, its release hasn’t been flawless. Gamers soon discovered a critical bug that halted story progression, along with several other technical difficulties.

Although Capcom has fixed that specific bug, other issues continue to affect an otherwise standout launch. Nevertheless, the game has undeniably raised the bar for the franchise, and Capcom’s confidence in its success is evident with Tsujimoto’s promotion.
