Mumbai Police took to X to respond to Malavika Mohanan’s concerns over women’s safety, prompted by a recent interview. “Ms @MalavikaM_ — We read about your experience and understand how distressing it must have been.

Please reach out to us at 112/100 in any such situation. Every report helps curb such crimes.” The police added that women should use their platforms to educate others, stating, “One bad episode shouldn’t overshadow Mumbai’s overall safety record.

Malavika’s Account: “Ek Chumma Degi Kya?”

Malavika Mohanan, during a conversation with Hauterrfly, revealed a distressing moment on a local train ride. Around 9:30 PM,

While being  seated with two friends by the window grills, a man walked up to them and said, “Ek chumma degi kya?” (“Will you give me a kiss?”).

“We were stunned, unable to react, just three girls who felt entirely vulnerable,” she said, challenging the popular narrative that Mumbai is a haven of safety for women.
