Why Does Monster Hunter Wilds Appear Washed Out?

I recently got a chance to better anticipated that Monster Hunter Wilds would dominate as the year’s biggest game, and it has. Rightfully so, as it builds upon World and Rise, offering a grand, ambitious experience that caters to both casual and hardcore players alike.

“I’ve only played for a few hours, but the excitement of hunting monsters and turning their remains into gear remains as satisfying as ever.”

“Similar to World and Rise, Wilds doesn’t run or look great on consoles. Even PC players, despite exceeding the high system requirements, are facing optimization issues. Capcom has some work ahead to refine Wilds into the game everyone hopes for, but right now, it still has a long way to go.”

Monster Hunter Wilds Struggles on Consoles

“I’m playing on a PS5 Pro and have been enjoying my time in the Forbidden Lands, but why does everything seem so lifeless and washed out?

As per a published article, when you first arrive in the desert, the game establishes that the locals are preparing for an intense sandstorm. As it clears, the nearby jungles and forests are meant to flourish with vibrant colors.”

“If you look in the actual scenario, the colors become slightly more vibrant, but the graphical issues persist. No matter how much I tweak the settings, a challenge I’ve discussed before finding the perfect balance remains difficult.”

“On the PS5 Pro, you can select from three modes: Performance, Balanced, and Resolution. Performance focuses on 60 FPS at a reduced resolution without ray tracing, while Resolution improves textures, character models, and reflections with ray tracing, delivering visuals closer to 4K.”

“On the PS5 Pro, the Balanced mode bridges the gap, offering 40 FPS for those with a 120Hz-compatible display. If your screen doesn’t support it, unfortunately, you’re out of luck.

“Visual quality isn’t great in any mode, with Performance mode barely reaching 1080p in an effort to maintain the framerate essential for a game where timing animations correctly is key to excel.”

“Right now, you either play on a high-end PC where problems still exist or deal with a less-than-ideal experience on consoles. I’m optimistic that future updates and expansions will bring improvements, but even then, the lighting remains a puzzling issue.”

Why Does the Lighting Look So Dull?

“Aside from the fluctuating framerate, my main gripe with Monster Hunter Wilds is its lighting. I might be overthinking it, but a quick glance at Reddit confirms that others share the same concern.”

“It all happened when capcom made this choice intentionally, but it still results in the game looking unappealing. However, you can work around this by adjusting the brightness settings, which are set far too high by default.”

“Rather than sticking to the suggested settings, reduce them to better match your display. Tweaking the luminosity to your liking can make a difference, as Wilds initially appears overly gray and washed out when it should be vibrant and colorful.”

“While you can tweak the settings manually, having to restart the game multiple times just to get the right balance shouldn’t be necessary.”

“Monster Hunter Wilds happens to be a fantastic game, but it’s quite frustrating that one so reliant on quick reactions struggles with consistent performance.

Visually, this mysterious world often lacks the vibrant colors and sharp detail you’d expect, even on the most powerful console available. While the RE Engine usually delivers excellence, it falls short here.”
