In being the most chaotic and overblown, the 3rd film of the franchise succeeds by showcasing a cast completely committed to looking like they’re enjoying themselves immensely
- Cast: Morgan Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, and Jesse Eisenberg
- Director: Ruben Fleischer
- Rating: 3 Stars***
The series behaves like the heist film’s charming trickster, ditching typical crime tactics for magic-fueled deception and embracing showmanship as its core belief.
It all happens after a decade since the last outing where you actually witness the original quartet of the You See Me: Now You Don’t.
It includes stars like Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Woody Harrelson who bring in the fresh air with their acting skills. They seem ready to run the circus after a long haul.
For a long time, all of them have been working quite seperately. But now, they have united again, especially after getting a mysterious communication from the Eye directs Atlas into the orbit of Charlie, June and Bosco, all three rising magicians who’ve forged a rebellious cult fanbase of their own.
For now, each of them has been working separately for ages, but a mysterious communication from The Eye brings them back together. It sends Atlas into the orbit of Charlie, June, and Bosco. It mainly becaomes as 3 fast rising magicians with a rebellious fan movement.
The narrative launches into a different kind of heist, overflowing with intertwined tricks that move too quickly for anyone, including the Horsemen.
What’s Good About the Film?
You might be wondering what’s the best that will be remembered about this film? Well, it’s the star cast of the film that proves to be its basic asset. Jesse resumes Atlas’s jittery genius with a smoothness that feels completely instinctive.
On the other hand Harrelson looks quite unbothered. Franco retains his role as the series’ most refined and naturally smooth performer, and with Fisher’s return, the core four regain their signature chemistry.
Fortunately, the newcomers never appear as if they were tacked on for corporate reasons. Those who bring a kind of charm and sharpness to the film include Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt, and Justice Smith. They preferably add fun to the movie.
Ariana stands out with a police-station action beat that feels like the movie momentarily waking up and re-energizing itself. It later shows how Rosamund Pike leans into her villain role so hard as if she’s positioning herself as the Bond universe’s final boss.
The highlight is the illusion-laced sequence in The Eye’s old headquarters which is a special moment that makes you realize how much you’ve missed this playful brand of spectacle
What’s Bad About the Film?
It feels like the film is paced so wildly that even the sleight-of-hand feels like it’s running on fumes.
Once the film starts, you will find various surprises that seem to evaporate even before they actually land. The emotional cues rush past, and the explanations for the film’s flashiest tricks right from a midday meal.
As Now You See Me: Now You Don’t has been directed by Fleischer, it looks like to be moving more towards the rumors. The franchise’s early cheeky cons have morphed into high-octane, Fast & Furious-like grandstanding.
Although, the film is loaded with fantastic location, plots, and people, it seems to lack its impact back to the audience.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t: The verdict
At the very least, it’s a breezy, celebrity-backed spectacle that delivers the fun right on cue. and it lacks the graceful precision you were expecting. Do you think the film gives a good time watching? Well, it will depend how the film performs at the box office.
