Akshay Kumar finally emerges to be the winner of the 64th National film award for best actor for 2016 released Rustom. Surabhi Lakshmi (Malayalam actress) was also chosen for the award in the category of best actress for her performance in Minnaminungu The Firefly (2017).
The year 2017 has been significantly different than last year witnessing regional cinema overtaking Hindi cinema (Bollywood) in winning national film awards. The winners of the awards already announced by the government on Friday.

Akshay Kumar performed his world’s best by winning the most prestigious award in as many as four major categories. Well, he was announced winner while representing the sole contender. The most awaiting moment in the life of Akshay Kumar came after he was announced winner for his performance as an actor in the 2016 crime thriller- Rustom.
On the other hand, Aamir Khan’s Dangal managed to grab only one accolade in its name. The highest grossing film of 2016 ended up winning national film award in the category of best supporting actress- Zaira Wasim (child actor). The other film that bulged out to win the awards was Shivaay– in the category of the best special effects.
