Page 3 (2005) marked its 20th anniversary on January 21. The film features a range of memorable characters, with Konkona Sen Sharma’s portrayal of Madhavi Sharma standing out.

Madhavi is a journalist who, despite her desire to engage in impactful journalism, ends up attending lavish parties to make a living. Meanwhile, she also develops feelings for an aspiring actor.

Madhavi is left in disbelief when she discovers her love interest involved with a gay make-up artist, a friend of hers, in a compromising situation.
Interestingly, two years later, a similar scene appears in Anurag Basu’s Life In A Metro (2007), where her character experiences the same shock upon finding her love interest in a compromising position with another man.

Madhur Bhandarkar Alleges Anurag Basu Plagiarized Page 3’s Gay Scene for Life In A Metro

As Page 3 marked its 20th anniversary, Bollywood Hungama caught up with director Madhur Bhandarkar for an exclusive interview. When asked about the striking similarities between the two scenes, particularly with Konkona playing a key role in both, Bhandarkar shared his thoughts on the connections.

Madhur Bhandarkar shared, “I actually discussed this with Konkona at one point. I asked her, ‘How could you do the same scene again?’ Even the camera work was strikingly similar! And let’s be clear, Page 3 wasn’t some forgotten film; it was only two years old when Life In A Metro was released. It wasn’t one of those films that no one remembered. Often, filmmakers might take inspiration from obscure films, but that wasn’t the case with Page 3.”

Madhur Bhandarkar went on to share, “When I questioned Konkona about it, she told me, ‘I mentioned to Basu that I had already done a similar scene. But he was firm, saying, “I want it just like this.”‘

Page 3 marked the first collaboration between Konkona Sen Sharma and Madhur Bhandarkar. The two later worked together again on Traffic Signal (2007), which was coincidentally released in the same year as Life In A Metro.
