Salman Khan's Sikandar

The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has voiced its outrage over the piracy of Sikandar, the eagerly awaited action-packed thriller featuring Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Rashmika Mandanna, and Salman Khan.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film was illegally shared in HD format just hours before its official release on March 30, 2025, leading to considerable financial harm to the film industry.

IMPPA Slams Piracy, Demands Tougher Actions On Illegal Streaming

It all happened when IMPPA came forward to express serious concern about the ongoing problem of film piracy, stressing that it remains a significant threat to the entertainment industry, impacting producers, distributors, and theater owners alike.

The association pointed out that unauthorized online platforms, such as Telegram and X, continue to enable the illegal distribution of films despite numerous warnings and legal efforts. “IMPPA has consistently highlighted the role of platforms like X and Telegram in facilitating unauthorized streaming and distribution of films,” the statement read

Even after repeated attempts to work with the authorities, these platforms remain active and unregulated, publicly advertising the free availability of films through social media,” IMPPA stated, urging swift and strict measures from the authorities.

Pointing out the wider impact, IMPPA stressed the urgent need for government intervention to address piracy. “The illegal release of Sikandar is not only a financial loss but also an affront to the creativity and hard work of the entire film industry.

We urge all relevant stakeholders, Central and State Governments, law enforcement, cybercrime agencies, and digital platforms to come together to bolster legal frameworks and implement stronger anti-piracy actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The association also reached out to audiences, encouraging them to back the film industry by using legal streaming options. “We urge the public to refrain from piracy and support the industry. Only by joining forces can we protect the future of Indian cinema and ensure that filmmakers can continue creating top-notch content without the threat of illegal exploitation.

The Sikandar leak underscores a troubling pattern of Bollywood films being targeted by piracy, despite the presence of strong legal frameworks. Pirated versions of the film were made available on notorious platforms like Tamilrockers, Movierulz, Filmyzilla, and various Telegram groups for illegal download and streaming just before its official release.

It’s therefore believed that the leak originated from camcorder recordings in theaters, which were later upgraded to HD quality and rapidly circulated online.
