American singer Ariana Grande and English actress Cynthia Erivo are going to star in Universal Pictures’ ‘Wicked’ musical.
Both Grande and Erivo are expected to portray the characters of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. Both of them will feature in the big screen adaptation of winning musical. “In the Heights” helmer Jon M Chu will be directing the movie.
Both of them announced their castings on their respective Instagram handles. Take a look at what Grande chose to write on her social media account, “Dear Cynthia, honored doesn’t even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz,”.
This time, Erivo wrote on her social media handle, “Pink goes good with green,”. The actress chose to write alongside screenshots of her video call with the pop star and didn’t forget to share the picture of the very note that she shared.
As per the sources, it’s going to be the prequel of “The Wizard of Oz,” “Wicked” that essentially tells the story of Dorothy’s arrival in Oz.
Talking about the Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, they portrayed the roles of frenemies Elphaba who are going to become the Wicked Witch of the West. While Glanda will become the good Witch.
Stephen Schwartz who earlier chose to essay the lyrics and music to the Broadway show, will be adapting the screenplay in the association of Winnie Holzman.
Broadway musical will be produced by Marc Platt who is also going to produce the film.
