Criminal Justice 4 Review: A Show-Stealing Performance by Pankaj Tripathi

“Gawaah darasal kahani ke panne hain jo hum nyayalay mein padhte hain. Nyay ki poori tasveer samajhne ke liye unka sahi kram mein hona bahut zaroori hai.”

Equipped with a lesson that could be gospel for lawyers, Advocate Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) is back to defend another murder case. The outcome? That’s the real suspense.

As expected, the hero wins the courtroom battle, but the true surprise lies in what happens next, the case resurfaces morally, promising an intriguing new season of the popular series now streaming on JioHotstar.

Kicking off with high-stakes drama, the latest season revolves around Dr. Raj Nagpal, a respected physician accused of murdering his girlfriend, Roshni Saluja. Surprisingly, his estranged wife, Anju, turns to Madhav Mishra to defend him in court.

Next comes the courtroom showdown. With a solid motive stemming from a previous night’s argument, the accused appears cornered. But Madhav Mishra has other plans, he secures a guilty plea and wields every fact like a weapon in his legal arsenal.

What Makes Criminal Justice: A Family Matter Click – A Spoiler-Free Review

What could’ve been a cut-and-dried murder story becomes electrifying under Rohan Sippy’s direction, thanks to well-timed and cleverly placed twists in every episode.

Against the odds of shrinking attention spans and constant screen distractions, the legal drama has rolled out four seasons, each telling its own unique story with new accused characters.

The series might feel like a one-man show thanks to Pankaj Tripathi, but the writing team’s strength is equally vital. In a world where many web series falter after a successful start, this show’s steady formula stands out as a key strength.

Many shows fail to replicate their initial success in season two, but this web series succeeds with a steady plot: high-stakes criminal cases, defendants who evoke sympathy or innocence, and Madhav Mishra’s uncompromising fight within a skewed system.

Criminal Justice: A Family Matter — Spotlight on Stellar Acting

Watching Pankaj Tripathi is like watching magic unfold! When I began the series, I wasn’t sure what new depth he’d bring to yet another trial. But his portrayal of Madhav Mishra is so effortless and sharp, it’s impossible to tell this is his fourth time in the role.

The experience feels like listening to an old friend in law retell a courtroom drama. His clever quips, grounded wisdom, and seamless way of navigating the tangled legal web make this show shine. He’s the unshakable pillar of the series.

It’s clear that Tripathi leads the charge, but the ensemble, including Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Surveen Chawla, Barkha Singh, and Meeta Vashishth, bring depth to the narrative. Shweta Basu Prasad, as the legal opposition, continues to impress, and I low-key hope she wins a round against Mishra.

Criminal Justice: A Family Matter Review: Final Verdict

Though Pankaj Tripathi commands attention in every shot, the rest of the cast isn’t far behind.

Ayyub, Chawla, Singh, and Vashishth contribute meaningfully, while Shweta Basu Prasad, as the rival lawyer, adds just the right amount of heat, making me root for a courtroom face-off!

He gives everything to his clients without ever compromising on his principles. It’s this seamless blend of cleverness, kindness, and comic timing that makes Madhav Mishra both relatable and remarkable, a true ‘khaas’ personality in an ‘aam’ appearance.

Created by Applause Entertainment and BBC Studios India, and skillfully directed by Rohan Sippy, Season 4 of Criminal Justice is available now on JioHotstar.

It sets up a tense, fragile structure of suspense, and Madhav Mishra is the man who knows exactly which card to pull.
