Bollywood Box Office 2024 to Date: After going through some dry patches in the journey, Bollywood is gaining momentum with films like Kalki 2898 AD and Munjya drawing impressive crowds to theaters.
Bollywood Box Office Mid-Year Report 2024: As 2024 began, the Hindi film industry faced a kind of uncertainty, despite achieving a record box office collection of Rs 12,200 crore last year in 2023. This was mainly due to theater attendance remaining significantly lower than pre-pandemic levels.
Looking at the year’s first half data, exhibitors across the country had high hopes for 3 big-budget films, namely Fighter, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Maidaan. Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, began the year quite unexpectedly. However, Akshay Kumar’s BMCM and Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan opened with just Rs 15.5 crore and Rs 7 crore, respectively.

These were some disappointing returns for films of such scale and featuring top-tier actors.
As compared to last year’s blockbuster films like Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, and Animal, the major Bollywood movies of 2024 have not been as successful as expected.
But several mid-budget films like Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Crew, Shaitaan, Munjya, and Article 370 have surprisingly performed well at the box office.
Their unexpected success is mainly due to positive social media buzz, captivating content, and some great marketing.

Hits of 2024
Kalki 2898 AD, which happens to be a Telugu film, has seen strong performance in its Hindi version at the box office.
Since its release on June 27, the Hindi version of the film managed to grab Rs 22.5 crore on its opening day, followed by Rs 23 crore on day 2, Rs 26 crore on day 3, Rs 40 crore on day 4, and approximately Rs 16.5 crore on day 5, bringing its total collection to over Rs 128 crore.
Considering the performance of Bollywood films, Fighter had a great box office collection of Rs 199.45 crore in India.
The film stars Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone in their respective pivotal roles.
As per Bollywood Hungama, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, managed to grab Rs 80.88 crore in its lifetime earnings. Other successful films include Madgaon Express, Crew, Article 370, Shaitaan, and Munjya.
Misses of 2024
The year’s biggest disappointment so far became Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, starring Tiger Shroff and Akshay Kumar.
Despite its reported budget of Rs 350 crore, the film only grossed Rs 59.17 crore at the box office. Another underperformed film was Maidaan, that managed to collect somewhere around Rs 52.29 crore.
Upcoming Movies of 2024
There are a number of upcoming blockbusters including Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again.
Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, starring Arjun Kapoor Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh in their pivotal roles, is generating considerable excitement.
Apart from the films mentioned above, there are some other films bound to get box office success, such as Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, Shahid Kapoor’s Deva, Alia Bhatt’s Jigra, and Bad Newz starring Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri.
