Benedict Cumberbatch Revealed Learning Taxidermy for ‘The Power of the Dog’
Benedict Cumberbatch, who’s an Oscar nominee revealed during the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet that he actually learned taxidermy for his role in ‘The Power of the Dog’.
Cumberbatch, while explaining more about his character in the upcoming film that he intended to learn the skill even though it was not at all required in the script.
“The weirdest [skill], and the one that didn’t get used in the film, obviously, was taxidermy. That’s a very strange thing to enter into if you’ve never done it before, “Cumberbatch said on the carpet.
The actor is nominated under the category of Best Actor at the 2022 Academy Awards, for his sensational acting skills in the Jane Campion directorial where he plays the role of a rancher in 1920s Montana.
This is what the actor explains the reason of learning the skill, “This man is incredibly skilled with his hands, he has a lot of time on his hands in 1925 Montana, so he whistles, he ropes, he braids, he makes gear for his horse, he’s an ironmonger, he can do amazing things with dead animals that he shot as well,” he wrote.
Taxidermy happened to be the skill required by his character in the film. It’s known that Benedict Cumberbatch simply learned the skill to “authenticate” his version of the character.
