Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has called out composer AR Rahman for allegedly making respected composers, singers, and songwriters wait for hours at his studio, only to leave them without a meeting.

Bhattacharya also expressed his disbelief over the lack of respect for these distinguished artists, many of whom held Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan honours.

Abhijeet Recalls AR Rahman Making Artists Wait for Hours Without Meeting Them

During a conversation with ANI, Abhijeet reminisced about his recording of the song “Ae Nazneen Suno Na” for the 1999 film Dil Hi Dil Mein, which had music composed by AR Rahman.

He shared that while he was recording, he noticed several renowned artists, including Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardees, waiting downstairs on a bench for nearly three hours, as Rahman kept them waiting without meeting them.

Abhijeet shared, “What’s shocking is that I saw Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardees sitting on a bench downstairs… Rahman sir didn’t come down for two or two-and-a-half hours. Everyone was chatting with each other to kill time. I kept checking my watch, hoping he would come down, but Rahman sir never showed up.”

Abhijeet Speaks Out On the Treatment of Padma Awardees At AR Rahman’s Studio

Abhijeet recalled, “I sang the song, and his assistant recorded it. I just sang Ae Nazneen Suno Na and left. This is how Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardees were treated there. You have to believe it.”

The Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan are among India’s highest civilian awards, with the former being the fourth-highest and the latter the third-highest.

These prestigious honours are granted by the Indian government to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their respective fields. AR Rahman was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2010.

AR Rahman and Abhijeet Bhattacharya have worked together on just one song, “Ae Nazneen Suno Na,” which was featured in the 1999 film Dil Hi Dil Mein
