In the current landscape of Bollywood, Dinesh Vijan has carved a niche as one of the most successful producers, with nearly every post-pandemic release of his resonating with audiences.

While many of his peers are still trying to decode box office trends. When questioned by a journalist about what he believes he’s done differently, Vijan replied:

“I’d like to begin by emphasizing how vital it is for all films to succeed right now. When a well-made film doesn’t do well, it impacts a lot of people. That’s why collective success matters—our own achievements aren’t enough on their own.”

This is what he explained, “I can’t say I’m doing anything others aren’t—we’re all essentially working along the same lines. The key difference, perhaps, is that we’re constantly learning from what we do. We’ve realized that today’s audience isn’t chasing Western aspirations.

Our thinking is deeply Indian. The average viewer wants to see stories that reflect their own lives. They’re the ones filling theatres on opening day, while the more elite audience usually shows up a week later.”

He added, “The people you surround yourself with truly matter—they influence every creative decision. I consider myself lucky to have a team of writers and directors who stay grounded and connected to the heartbeat of New Bharat. It’s essential to understand where we come from, and today’s India takes pride in that identity.”

Dinesh further noted, “Our film explores the idea of ‘nek karya,’ which might not resonate the same way with Western audiences. What sets India apart is our deeply ingrained moral compass—that’s the essence of karma.

There’s an incredible wealth of cultural and emotional stories in our land. If we shift our attention to this richness, I believe we’ll find countless untold stories waiting to be brought to life.”

Bhool Chuk Maaf is set to hit theatres on May 9, 2025.
