Following his emotional farewell in The Last of Us Season 2, Pedro Pascal begins a new chapter playing Harry in Materialists

Romantic comedy Materialists, led by Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, and Dakota Johnson, officially premiered on June 13 under the direction of Celine Song.

The film has attracted a steady audience, despite facing stiff competition from blockbusters like How to Train Your Dragon. Variety projects a weekend debut of $8–10 million.

Materialists marks Pedro Pascal’s first major appearance following his exit from The Last of Us Season 2.

His portrayal of Joel Miller, alongside Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, was praised for its emotional depth and the compelling portrayal of survival in a zombie-infested America.

Is Pedro Pascal Making a Comeback in Season 3 of The Last of Us?

Pedro Pascal’s Joel is killed off early in Season 2 of The Last of Us, with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) delivering the fatal blow that propels Ellie on her vengeance-driven arc.

Despite his on-screen death, the creators haven’t ruled out a return in Season 3. As Joel’s story in the video game continues through flashbacks, Pascal’s continued presence on the show remains a strong possibility.

The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin kept fans guessing in his TVLine interview: “We’ll see Kaitlyn Dever, Bella Ramsey, and Isabela Merced again—and a few others thought to be gone. To the main question on everyone’s mind: I’m staying quiet.”

Pedro Pascal takes on the role of Harry in Celine Song’s second film, an investor who sets his sights on Lucy, a matchmaker played by Dakota Johnson.

As their bond deepens, Lucy is forced to confront old feelings when her ex, played by Chris Evans, reappears.

The buzzworthy scene in Materialists featuring the initial encounter between the three lead characters has been a major highlight since the trailer’s debut.

According to director Celine Song, this was the first sequence she wrote when developing the script, as shared in her New York Times interview.
