The Diplomat Box Office Day 1: John Abraham’s latest release, The Diplomat, arrived in theaters nationwide today but experienced a lukewarm start at the box office despite the extended Holi weekend.
The film, which follows Abraham as a diplomat on a critical rescue mission, saw modest advance bookings and faces strong competition from Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava. Before its release, Abraham met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

As per reports, Shivam Nair’s directorial has garnered approximately Rs 2 – 2.5 crore in advance bookings. Despite its release during the extended Holi weekend, the film has failed to generate strong pre-release excitement, placing it among John Abraham’s lowest openers based on early estimates.

The film also stars Sadia Khateeb as Uzma, the Indian woman his character is determined to bring back from Pakistan. Abraham has described the movie as an “emotional, edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller” rather than a standard patriotic drama.
The advance ticket sales for The Diplomat commenced on Wednesday in select cinemas, but the film faces strong competition from Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which remains a box office favorite even after nearly a month. Nonetheless, industry experts predict that anticipation for the film could grow as its release nears.

The Diplomat was originally scheduled to release on March 7 but was pushed back by a week. The film is now set to hit theaters on March 14, aligning with the Holi weekend
Before the film’s release, John Abraham met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday.
They discussed topics Jaishankar later shared photos from the meeting, including one where Abraham presented him with a jersey featuring his name and the number 9.
John Abraham took to X to share his admiration for S. Jaishankar, writing, “It was a true honor and pleasure to meet someone I deeply respect. We had engaging discussions on diplomacy, the Northeast, and football, among other topics. Grateful for the opportunity, Sir!”
