James Caan acted in a number of movies right from the start of his Hollywood career. He also shined doing various TV shows. But he got real fame through one of his characters Sonny Corleone. He took his last breath today at the age of 82.
Well, there are no words to express his excellence. It’s because right through his career, he presented some mind blowing and unique skills in front of the camera. In his long haul of over six decades, he appeared in numerous films and TV shows.
Some of his movies are still remembered and are known to make a mark in the entire Hollywood fraternity. Although, James Caan performed hundreds of roles in his career, he is identified through some of his roles like the quick-tempered and skirt-chasing Sonny Corleone in the original “Godfather” movie.
His demise was announced by his family on Twitter which was later confirmed by his manager named Matt DelPiano as well.
“The Godfather” in which James Caan acted proved a great movie. It was released in the year 1972. By the time ‘The Godfather’ released, Caan had established himself as a young but impressive actor.

For example, in the year 1966, he had to play a meaty role in the film “El Dorado,” which also starred Robert Mitchum and John Wayne in their respective pivotal roles.
Again, in the year 1969 in the movie “The Rain People,” which was his very first collaboration with the renowned director Francis Ford Coppola had managed to earn critical praise while playing a former football player.
In the same way, “Brian’s Song” (1971) which was specifically a television film managed gave him recognition in front of the larger audience.
The film was based on a true story or events an revolved around the friendship of a Black football star, Gale Sayers and a white teammate, Brian Piccolo.
Afterwards came another blockbuster titled ‘The Godfather’ which had initially cast central figure, Michael Corleone. It was a central role played by Al Pacino.
On the other hand James Caan played the role of Sonny which had to be gunned down on a causeway. He participated into the character so well that people even now say that “Hey, don’t go through that tollbooth again.”
There were some who mistook Caan for a real mobster, “I’ve been accused so many times,” he told Vanity Fair in 2004. “I won ‘Italian of the Year’ twice in New York, and I’m not Italian.”

His hard work paid him in the end after he received an Emmy nomination in the category of the best actor for “Brian’s Song”. He also managed to win an Academy Award nomination in the category of the best supporting actor for “The Godfather.”
James Caan’s Oscar competition included Robert Duvall (‘Godfather’ actor) and Mr. Pacino. It all happened that all three of them managed to cancel each other out. And the award finally went to Joel Grey for “Cabaret.”
This was the time when the career of James Caan reached to its level high. The decade was very fertile for the actor. One of his memorable role was in the movie “Cinderella Liberty” (1973) where he performed the character of a love-struck sailor.
There are a few others like a self-destructive professor in “The Gambler” (1974), and “Thief” (1981).
In the later years, James Caan tried his hand into directing just like Paul Newman.
But he directed only one film “Hide in Plain Sight” (1980) where he also chose to enact. But the film couldn’t perform well at the box office which left him disenchanted.
