While promoting his latest film Bad Newz, Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal shared a frightening experience. It was when he was working as an assistant director on Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (2012).

The film, depicting the harsh realities of gangsters and coal mafia, resonated too closely with Vicky during the shoot. On YouTuber Tanmay Bhat’s channel, he recounted a harrowing encounter sand mafia.

Vicky Kaushal noted, “The coal smuggling shown in the film was real. While filming, we had an experience capturing illegal sand mining that was eye-opening.
It was the first time I saw how openly this activity is conducted.” He added, “It wasn’t just a couple of trucks; there were 500 trucks. It felt more like a well-managed business than mere smuggling.”

Caught in the Act

Vicky Kaushal described, “We were filming covertly when a group of 500 people surrounded us. The camera operator, an older gentleman in his 50s, told the crew that the camera would be delayed because we were discovered.” A misunderstanding then worsened the situation.

This tense experience on the set of Gangs of Wasseypur contrasts sharply with the success of Vicky’s latest film, Bad Newz. The comedy, which stars Ammy Virk, Neha Dhupia, and Triptii Dimri, has garnered a strong positive response from both critics and audiences.
