Tom Cruise, who recently appeared in Mission: Impossible 7, is currently engaged in preliminary discussions with Paramount regarding a sequel to Days of Thunder.
Hollywood icon Tom Cruise, who was last seen in Mission: Impossible 7, is reportedly in initial discussions with Paramount about a sequel to Days of Thunder.
The original film, a NASCAR-themed drama from 1990, was directed by the late Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer in collaboration with his late partner Don Simpson.
Currently, there are no other creatives attached to the project, and with Tom Cruise busy promoting Mission: Impossible 8, filming Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming film, and developing another Top Gun installment, the sequel to Days of Thunder is not expected to commence anytime soon.
Reports further indicate that Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced Top Gun: Maverick, is also in talks about possibly returning for this project.
The original movie revolves around Cole Trickle, a determined race car driver who joins a new NASCAR team managed by a retired racing icon portrayed by Robert Duvall.
Tom Cruise has significant ties to this film, as it marks his first and only official writing credit to date, which he received for collaborating on the story with screenwriter Robert Towne.
Further, it was on this set that he met Nicole Kidman, who made her Hollywood debut as a neurosurgeon who falls for Cole; the couple was married for 11 years.
