The makers of Thangalaan recently affirmed that their upcoming film starring Chiyaan Vikram is the original tale of KGF, also known as Kolar Gold Fields.
The story unfolds against the backdrop of the pre-Independence era, revealing events during the British Raj.
Many may recall that India was once referred to as the “Golden Bird,” and one of the primary reasons for this was the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF). KGF was one of the largest gold mines globally, exploited by the British who transported over 900 tones of gold to England.

Today’s generation may not be familiar with the history of the Kolar Gold Fields, commonly known as K.G.F. Thangalaan, an ambitious pan-India film, aims to delve into the true story and background of these significant gold mines.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, the movie is set in the early 19th century, offering a historical action drama based on real events centered around the lives of miners in the Kolar Gold Field, located in Karnataka.
The storyline is inspired by the struggles and experiences of the people living in Kolar Gold Fields, including their efforts to protect the mines from the British.
The British first discovered the Kolar Gold Mine Field over a thousand years ago and subsequently exploited it for their own gains.
During the Pongal festival, the producers revealed that the highly anticipated movie is slated for an April 2024 release.
Thangalaan features music by GV Prakash Kumar and stars an impressive ensemble cast including Pasupathy, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Hollywood actor Daniel Caltagirone, among others.
The film is set to hit theaters worldwide in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
