Saira Banu, the renowned former beauty queen, strongly advocates for both Raj Kapoor and her late husband, the legendary Dilip Kumar, to receive the Bharat Ratna. “Without a doubt, Dilip Saab and Raj ji should be honored with this prestigious award,” she emphasized.

“They are invaluable gems and pillars of our film industry. Just as Lataji, who deservedly received the Bharat Ratna, Dilip Saab and Raj Saab are equally irreplaceable. Why weren’t they bestowed with this prestigious honor during their lifetimes? The film industry had always urged for this recognition, but it was never granted. I have now left it in the hands of God.”

When the writer spoke to Dilip Saab following Lata Mangeshkar’s Bharat Ratna recognition, he expressed genuine happiness. “My little sister has received the Bharat Ratna? She truly deserves it.

No one is more deserving than her. Her contribution to the film industry is beyond measure. She doesn’t just sing; she conveys the essence of humanity through her music. There will never be another Lata Mangeshkar,” he remarked

All the speculation about Raj Kapoor receiving the Bharat Ratna has intensified following a recent visit by the Kapoor family to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. There are growing whispers in political circles suggesting that the legendary Raj Kapoor, known as the original Showman, is being seriously considered for the prestigious honor.

Lata Mangeshkar stands as the only person from the Hindi film industry to be honored with India’s highest civilian award. While several other distinguished individuals have been considered, none have been granted this recognition.

Raj Kapoor may soon become the second person from the Hindi film industry to receive the Bharat Ratna, a recognition he undoubtedly deserves.

He transitioned from acting to directing with Aag in 1948, and by the time Barsaat was released in 1959, he had made a name for himself as both a filmmaker and actor, starting his iconic musical partnership with Lata Mangeshkar.

Raj Kapoor passed away while still dedicated to his craft, in 1988, when he fell ill at a ceremony for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In a remarkable and respectful act, President Venkataraman left the stage to personally hand the award to Raj Kapoor.

At the time of his passing, the true Showman of Indian cinema was deeply involved in his cherished project, Henna, a love story set against the backdrop of India and Pakistan, featuring his son Rishi Kapoor as the lead.
