Rashami Desai Recalls Challenging Time When she Was Homeless & Burdened With Rs 3.5 Crores In Debt

Things seemed to be going well until my show was unexpectedly canceled. I spent four days living in my Audi A6, as all my possessions were at my manager’s home, and I was completely disconnected from my family.

During that period, rickshaw drivers served meals for Rs 20 in a plastic bag, which included a mix of daal and chawal and a couple of rotis, often with stones mixed in. Despite the poor quality, I had to make do with what I could. Those four days were incredibly tough.”

The financial struggles took a heavy emotional toll on Rashami. She shared, “After my divorce, my friends started viewing me as difficult because I became very withdrawn and less open.

My family thought all my decisions were mistakes. Even though I managed to pay off my loan, I was still overwhelmed with stress. I couldn’t sleep and worked tirelessly. During that time, I even thought that death might be a preferable escape.”

Despite the difficulties, Rashami Desai persisted in her career. She started with the Assamese film Kanyadaan (2002) and gained prominence in Bhojpuri cinema. However, it was her roles in popular TV shows such as Uttaran (2008-2014) and Dil Se Dil Tak (2017-2018) that propelled her to widespread fame.
