Oblivion Remake

In Short:

  • According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, a remake or remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is reportedly set for a surprise release this month
  • According to Grubb, sources suggest a shadow drop is likely this month, with Microsoft reportedly taking a similar approach to Oblivion as it did with Ninja Gaiden 2

Whispers of a revamped version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion have been floating around the gaming world for quite some time, making it one of the most talked-about yet unofficial projects out there.

With several insiders hinting at its development, predictions about when it might drop have spanned from an April launch to a potential summer debut.

As the anniversary passes without any official news from Microsoft, excitement has started to fade, leaving fans uncertain about the game’s existence.

Fortunately, insider Jeff Grubb has reignited speculation, hinting that the Oblivion Remake or remaster might be released unexpectedly sometime this month, just like the surprise drop of Ninja Gaiden 2.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion- No Need to Worry, The Oblivion Remake Still On the Way

On a recent episode of Giant Bomb’s Power Block podcast, Jeff Grubb and Emma Fyffe chatted about the chance of the Oblivion remake being launched without warning.

They suggested that Microsoft could announce it casually on social media or possibly reveal it during a Developer Direct that hasn’t been announced yet. Either way, Grubb appears confident the game will arrive before April wraps up.

Jeff Grubb is widely regarded as one of the most trustworthy voices when it comes to gaming leaks and early info, thanks to his consistent track record of getting things right.

While his statements hold more credibility than most internet speculation, it’s still smart to stay grounded. Game development plans can change on a dime, and with Microsoft staying silent about Oblivion, nothing is set in stone just yet.

Dropping the game without prior notice wouldn’t be out of character for Microsoft.

Some of their most talked-about successes in recent years like Hi-Fi Rush in 2023 and Ninja Gaiden 2 earlier this year—were released the same way.

Given the buzz that follows these surprise launches, an Oblivion remake would be the boldest and most high-profile move of this kind yet.
