He recently acknowledged that he had to face rejection constantly even after trying for different roles in films. He said that he’s a part of the entertainment industry, still he revealed the emotional fatigue brought on by constant auditions and rejection.

Talking to Digital Commentary, he noted that the effort required to secure roles hasn’t diminished, regardless of his extensive experience.

Ninad Kamat Opens Up On Losing A Big Project; Says Today’s Industry Driven By Lobbying & Social Media

NinadKamat proved his point by sharing a recent incident. He explained that he recently had an audition for a big budget film just a week ago. Although he attended 4 auditions for the same character, he was eventually turned down.

“Thirty-one years later, and auditions are still part of the journey,” he said. “I auditioned last week for a massive film—can’t disclose the name. I travelled four times from Mahim to Andheri Versova for one of the primary roles. Three days ago, I received a simple message: ‘Sorry, sir.’ It was heartbreaking.

The actor didn’t stop here. He further revealed, “I adopted a touch of North Indian accent, polished the comic timing… rehearsed everything at home. So when they inform you three days earlier that it’s not happening, particularly for a prominent character as it feels painful.”

Speaking about casting today, he said, “It’s a completely different scenario. Social media pressure, lobbying, marketing… an actor’s follower count is suddenly the deciding factor. And honestly, that’s harming the art.”

Kamat has raised his voice at a time when so many veteran and today’s actors have revealed their personal dilema about how audition culture has discredited their experience.

As per a recent recollection, Marathi and TV veteran Usha Nadkarni stated that she had rejected an audition for Gully Boy. She revealed she was offended that a young assistant director asked her to test without knowing her impressive decades-spanning portfolio.

Nadkarni was conversing with Pinkvilla where he stated that he was rejected by her instantly. It all happened when I preferred to ask him how old he was, he said 25. I told him I’ve worked longer than his mother has lived.

I don’t waste time on such auditions. When he told me who the director was, I replied, ‘She’s a big man’s daughter, isn’t she? Ask her to check my name on the computer—then she’ll know my work.’”
