KPop Demon Hunters aired on Netflix, drawing millions of viewers and climbing to top spots worldwide. It narrates the tale of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. They happen to be K-pop stars who act as demon slayers, even battling a rival boy band. The film’s team is hopeful about expanding the universe if a sequel gets confirmed by the makers
KPop Demon Hunters: Premiering on June 20, 2025, KPop Demon Hunters quickly turned into a Netflix sensation after surpassing over 50 million views.
The story follows three K-pop idols named Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), Mira (May Hong), and Rumi (Arden Cho) who tend to make up the hit girl group HUNTR/X.
In the film, the trio uses their mystical singing powers to battle supernatural enemies, including a demonic boy band called the Saja Boys. If you believe what Netflix says, then K-Pop Demon Hunters has already managed to cross a hefty 50 million views since its premiere.
With Netflix Top 10 placements in 93 countries along with a soundtrack that debuted at No. 8 before rising to No. 3 on the Billboard 200, K-Pop Demon Hunters has become a cultural phenomenon. The animated film’s runaway success has viewers and stars eagerly awaiting news of a sequel.
Chris Appelhans, co-director of the film, stated that the film’s 85-minute runtime barely scratched the surface. “We packed a lot in, but it’s such a big concept. There are still so many open-ended questions, good ones that could each lead to their own adventure,” he said.
Will Netflix Renew KPop Demon Hunters 2? Here’s What the Cast and Crew Think
Well, the latest on this is that no official sequel has been announced by Netflix or Sony Pictures Animation. But co-director Maggie Kang told Variety that she and Appelhans have more character arcs waiting to be told.
“We created backstories, especially for Zoey and Mira,” Kang said. “But the movie was very clearly Rumi’s, and every time we tried to insert the others’ stories, it didn’t work. There’s more, but it wasn’t time for that yet.”
Here’s What the Stars of KPop Demon Hunters Said About A Sequel
The cast behind HUNTR/X is more than ready for a second adventure. “I’ve already told Maggie and Chris there has to be a sequel.”
This is what Yoo shared with Mama’s Geeky in June 2025. “I’d be bummed if we can’t do it.” Meanwhile, Cho added that not continuing the story would leave her “heartbroken.”
