Khauf, Prime Video’s new psychological horror series, has launched, taking viewers through the spine-chilling halls of a haunted girls’ hostel.
With Monika Panwar starring as Madhu, the show explores deep themes of fear, trauma, and the supernatural, presenting a refreshing approach to the horror genre.
Monika Panwar Reflects On Khauf Experience: “Psychological Horror Taps Into Deep Emotions”
For Monika Panwar, Khauf was a chance to delve into horror with a psychological focus. Reflecting on her preparation for the character of Madhu, she mentioned, “I’ve always been a fan of horror films, and while working on this project, I found myself turning to international cinema for inspiration on how the genre has been creatively explored.”
“My role as Madhu involves much more than encountering the supernatural; it’s about confronting deep-seated traumas and continuously battling them.
In terms of preparation, I had to fully embrace that psychological state, capturing the essence of what the director and creator envisioned. It was also about exploring the finer details, like how one’s body would move when taken over by possession.”
The character of Madhu mainly lies at the core of the series’ supernatural happenings, also symbolizing the burden of unresolved emotional wounds.
The role demanded Panwar to explore a complex mix of emotions, ranging from fear and anxiety to moments of strength and vulnerability.
On the challenges of working in the horror genre, she explained, “Horror requires an actor to tap into a wide emotional range. It’s not only about portraying human emotions but also engaging with an unseen, almost overpowering evil force.”
Khauf, crafted by showrunner Smita Singh and executive-produced by Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil under the Matchbox Shots banner, combines a captivating storyline, a chilling atmosphere, and a powerful ensemble cast featuring Shilpa Shukla, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Abhishek Chauhan, and Rajat Kapoor.
Directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan, the entire series promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The film is filled with quite an engaging narrative along with some multifaceted characters, Khauf enhances Prime Video’s diverse lineup of genre content. The series is now streaming in India and more than 240 countries and regions around the world.
