She recently expressed her views on the distinctions between working in the South film industry and Bollywood, highlighting that female actors are often regarded as more dispensable than their male counterparts in certain South Indian film circles.

The actress humorously said where those gifts come from, admitting she has never received them.

While she recognized that this gifting culture exists, she noted that it is generally linked to a film’s success, with producers often rewarding male leads to foster goodwill.

Malavika further expressed that female actors often miss out on this acknowledgment, which underscores their perceived replaceability in the film industry.

The actress further emphasized that female actors do not receive the same level of recognition as their male counterparts.

Often, if a film underperforms at the box office, female stars are labeled as “unlucky.” “There is a prevailing belief that female actors are more expendable than male actors. Male stars have bankability; if his last film earned around 200 to 300 crores, that factor is always taken into account,” she remarked.

The actress who hails from Telangana noted that she has seen female stars being tagged as unlucky if a film underperforms at the box office. “I have observed this occurring in several industries. It’s a serious problem; in some South Indian industries, it’s a common occurrence,” she highlighted.
