In Short:

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 players continue to express their frustration over the recurring “hold down ‘W'” prompt while riding
  • The pop-up remains on-screen and doesn’t disappear automatically
  • Players are stubbornly keeping ‘W’ pressed out of pure defiance.

Some gaming habits are second nature, whether it’s leaning in after falling behind in FIFA or pressing forward on the thumbstick while driving, even when it’s not required. It doesn’t affect the gameplay.

For Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 players using a mouse and keyboard, holding ‘W’ while riding a horse might be instinctive, even though it’s unnecessary.

The game simply provides a notification as a helpful reminder, but since it appears almost every time, many players find it more irritating than useful.

I’ll Press ‘W’ As Much As I Please

What makes this pop-up especially irritating is that it won’t vanish automatically. Instead, players have to actively hold a button to get rid of it. In defiance, many have opted to keep pressing ‘W’ just to spite the game, in one of the slowbromow posts on Reddit.

Many players in the comments echoed their frustration with this recurring pop-up. While some recommended turning off tutorial prompts entirely, newcomers like myself still find the other hints useful.

One player suggested, “There should be an option to disable repetitive hints, but have them reset every time the game restarts—because I’ll definitely forget something basic.”

Another player joked, “I will continue to hold W because this is an RPG, and the devs are just waiting for me to fall for this trick so they can kill me in-game. I’m not falling for it.” It seems many gamers instinctively prefer holding down an input to move forward—I can’t say I blame them.

At this stage, the pop-up has become a meme among Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 players, much like choosing to ignore the wedding.
