Drishyam Set to Get A Hollywood Remake With Gulfstream Pictures & JOAT Films

Drishyam, the renowned Indian franchise, is now set to make a global impact after its huge success in the Indian and Chinese markets.

The producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak first announced the Korean remake of this thrilling franchise at the Cannes Film Festival 2023.

Now, they have revealed another significant milestone for the franchise: Panorama Studios is collaborating with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to create the first-ever Hollywood adaptation of Drishyam, a groundbreaking achievement for an Indian film!

Gulfstream Pictures, co-founded by Mike Karz and Bill Bindley, have garnered recognition for producing the romantic comedy Blended, which brought back Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore, as well as the workplace comedy Upgraded starring Camila Mendes, Marisa Tomei & Lena Olin.

Meanwhile, JOAT Films, founded by Jack Nguyen, is renowned for his extensive experience in the film industry, particularly during his tenure as a former Warner Bros executive in charge of supervising production in the Asia region.

While at WB, Nguyen was instrumental in facilitating market entries into China, Japan, India, and Korea. JOAT Films specializes in cross-territorial local language remakes.

Panorama Studios is known to has acquired the rights to remake Drishyam 1 & 2 for the international audience from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas.

Drishyam is currently in development in the US and Korea, and a development deal is being finalized for a Spanish-language version. Other countries are also being considered.

Kumar Mangat Pathak, the Chairman and Managing Director of Panorama Studios, who acquired the rights to the Drishyam franchise, states, “The story of Drishyam has a universal appeal, and we are excited to share this narrative with audiences worldwide. We are thrilled to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to adapt this story for Hollywood in English. After Korea and Hollywood, our goal is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries within the next three to five years.”

Abhishek Pathak, a producer and director of Drishyam 2, says, “We have received overwhelming love from our Indian audience, who have made the Drishyam franchise a massive success. The essence of Drishyam lies in its story, and we want it to be appreciated by audiences globally. We are thrilled to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films, who will continue to develop this franchise in English for the US and other international Hollywood markets.”

Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream Pictures jointly state, “We are excited to partner with Panorama Studios and JOAT Films on an English language adaptation of Drishyam. While the Korean and English renditions are in the works, the original Malayalam version has seen successful adaptations in various languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala, and Chinese.
