Ilaiyaraja’s Biopic: Some media outlets reported that R Balki, who has a close relationship with Ilaiyaraja, would helm a biographical film about the music icon.

They highlighted the successful collaboration between the two in movies like Cheeni Kum, Shamitabh, and Paa. Despite their personal connection, Balki ultimately declined to direct the biopic.

R Balki is not directing the Ilayaraja biopic; says, “How can I make a film on someone I am so close to?”

R Balki Responds to Directing the Ilayaraja Biopic: “How Can I Make A Film On Someone I am So Close to?

Balki expressed, “How can I create a film about someone I deeply admire and hero-worship, much like your reverence for Lataji (Mangeshkar). You can relate to my sentiments.”

Furthermore, Balki elaborated, “I often tell him that he ages in reverse each year. That’s because his being is 98 percent music… 1.9 percent water … and 0.1 percent everything else. His contribution to cinema is not just musical, but he also brings an extra layer to the narrative.”

Balki is of the opinion that he wouldn’t be able to aptly represent Ilaiyaraja in a film. “Being profoundly connected to his music, I’m unable to present him in the context of a film. He holds a divine presence for me, making it challenging to capture his human side.”

There were unfounded claims that Mari Selvraj would take Balki’s place as the director for Ilaiyaraja’s biopic. It’s important to clarify that these rumors are baseless.
