According to Jungkook, he wore the hat without realizing the phrase carried political and historical weight

During BTS’ 2025 Festa, Jungkook was spotted wearing a black hat with the phrase “Make Tokyo Great Again,” a slogan similar to Donald Trump’s political motto.

The accessory stirred backlash online. Jungkook later addressed the issue on Weverse, apologizing and explaining he didn’t know the slogan’s historical or political implications.

Wearing a hat with the phrase “Make Tokyo Great Again” — a slogan linked to Japanese nationalism and reportedly used by Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko, has landed BTS’s Jungkook in controversy. South Korean fans criticized the move, calling it insensitive given the phrase’s political associations.
