Andaz Apna Apna

The cult classic Andaz Apna Apna, starring Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, is getting a theatrical re-release. Let’s look at three major reasons why it failed to make a mark at the box office during its original run.

The beloved comedy Andaz Apna Apna, featuring Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, is returning to the big screen for a second shot at box office glory.

With advance ticket sales already underway, this re-release could give the film a whole new chapter in its theatrical journey.

A Historic Feat Within ₹85 Lakh Reach

Made on a modest budget of ₹3 crore, the film managed to earn ₹5.15 crore at the box office, generating a solid 71.6% profit. Now, it’s just ₹85 lakh short of officially being declared a hit!

Behind the Box Office Failure of Andaz Apna Apna

Although Andaz Apna Apna earned a 71.6% profit, it was still considered a flop when it first hit theatres.

Back then, a film’s success wasn’t solely judged by its profit margins, factors like theatrical and distribution share held more weight.

Unfortunately, despite starring Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, the film didn’t perform well in those key areas, which impacted its overall verdict.

Despite turning a 71.6% profit, here are three key reasons why the film was still labelled a flop at the box office:

Delayed By 4 Years

One of the biggest setbacks for Andaz Apna Apna was the three-year delay in its production.

Although the muhurat shot was completed in 1990, the film faced numerous obstacles and was only released in 1994.

This long delay resulted in significant financial losses for the production team at the time.

No Promotions

When Andaz Apna Apna was finally ready to hit theatres, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan had already risen to superstardom and were involved in other projects.

Similarly, director Rajkumar Santoshi was occupied with a different film. As a result, there was no one available to actively promote the movie, and it suffered from a lack of marketing.

Earned Exclusively In Mumbai

Because of the lack of marketing, the film saw success only in Mumbai and a few major cities.

Despite Aamir Khan and Salman Khan’s stardom at the time of its release, it didn’t manage to reach the wider audience it could have.

Perhaps it’s finally time for the film to redeem itself, and the re-release could bring it the recognition it deserves at the box office.
