The makers of 800 recently revealed the first look of Vijay Sethupathi in his upcoming film titled 800.
But after the first look of the star actor was revealed yesterday through 800 teaser, there was a much backlash started bulging up by a particular section of his fans.
The fans registered their anguish against Vijay Sethupathi for portraying the character of Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan in his biopic.
On the other hand, if you go through the first look of Sethupathi in the biopic, you find his most shocking resemblance with the cricketer.
Now, reacting to the backlash (as stated above), the makers have given their own clarification regarding this film.
As per the clarification issued today, the film 800 is going to be purely a sports biopic and not relate anywhere with the politics.
Take a look at the statement released by the makers after the backlash, It came to our notice that our film ‘800’, the biopic of Muthiah Muralidaran featuring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, is being politicized in many ways.
However, we want to clarify that 800 is purely a sports biography film about the legendary cricket Muthiah Muralidaran.”
“The film is a journey about a man who hails from the Tamil migrant community, going on to become the highest wicket taker of all time. The film does not make any political statement favoring any community. This film is intended to be an inspiration for the young generation to achieve their dreams irrespective of the difficulties they come across in their journey.”
“We as producers assure that this film will not showcase any scene that would belittle the struggles of Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka or hurt their sentiments in anyway.
“On a positive note the film will engage the Tamil Film community in Sri Lanka providing the artists and technicians a platform to showcase their talents on a global stage. Art is beyond boundaries; it unites people all across. Artists belong to the world. We wish to spread only Positivity, Love and Hope.”
The film 800 starring Vijay Sethupathi will be directed by MS Sripathy. The cinematography part in the film is done by RD Rajasekhar and the music is composed by Sam CS. 800 will be released by the next year.
