In Short:

  • The Sims Legacy Collection on Steam is drawing mixed reviews due to ongoing crashes and sluggish performance
  • Players are reporting facing crashes, save failures, black screen issues, and several other glitches
  • EA has rolled out patch notes to resolve significant issues, yet numerous players are still encountering difficulties

The Legacy Collection brought The Sims to Steam for the first time this week. While it seemed like a sure win for Electronic Arts, player feedback has been varied.

While some are excited about The Sims finally arriving on Steam, others argue that the re-release of The Sims 2 is overpriced and merely a cash grab.

As it seems, the original Sims is catching heat, as its Steam rating has also dropped to Mixed, but for an altogether varid reason.

A glance at the latest Steam reviews reveals that many players are struggling with performance issues, with frequent crashes being the biggest frustration.

In regards to the mixed feedback, users such as Mavi say they “can’t recommend it in its present condition,” while The_D_Effect describes experiencing six crashes within just two hours of play.

Well, there are also some other issues where players are encountering include the save function possibly erasing full files and the game displaying only a black screen.

It looks like efforts are being made to address the issues, with EA putting out an update today featuring a list of fixes. However, it seems that many players are still experiencing problems.

Considering The Sims just turned 25 this month, it’s surprising, as most players have capable machines to run it. It might be better to wait until EA resolves the issues before diving back in for a nostalgic playthrough.
