Sharmila Tagore has criticized the BCCI for its decision to phase out the Pataudi Trophy, a prestigious series dedicated to her late husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

An iconic cricketer from the 1960s and 1970s, Pataudi’s contributions to Indian cricket were commemorated through the Test series, which began in 2007 to mark the landmark India-England Test series of 1932.

Though the decision remains unofficial, Sharmila Tagore has spoken out against it. “I haven’t received any communication from them, but the ECB has informed Saif (Ali Khan) through a letter that the trophy will be retired. If the BCCI chooses to remember or disregard Tiger’s (Mansoor Ali Khan) legacy, that’s their decision,” she told Hindustan Times.

The decision has faced backlash from both fans and cricket experts who consider it the end of a cherished historical symbol. However, it also signals a change in the traditions of the sport.

Some believe this shift could lead to the introduction of new trophies or honors that are more in tune with the evolving trends in international cricket.

A number of people believe that the Pataudi Trophy should continue to honor Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s legacy, seeing it as a key part of cricket’s history. However, with no official statement from the BCCI yet, the decision remains unresolved.

This mainly follows an incident several months ago when Saif Ali Khan was injured during an attempted robbery at his Bandra home while trying to safeguard his family. He was stabbed multiple times and had to undergo surgery.
