Rajkummar Rao Opens Up About Manifesting His Role In Kai Po Che!: “It’s Surreal But True”
Rajkummar Rao’s early career was marked by challenges, including minor roles like the TV anchor in Ram Gopal Varma’s Rann (2010). However, his breakthrough came with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che!, which also launched the careers of Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh.
Adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s The Three Mistakes of My Life, Kai Po Che! was a pivotal film for Rajkummar. He recently revealed on the podcast The Longest Interview on Audible that he had envisioned himself in the movie even before making a name for himself in the industry.
Rajkummar Rao recounted, “I was deeply impressed by Chetan Bhagat’s The Three Mistakes of My Life. At that time, I had already seen a film adaptation of his earlier book, One Night at the Call Center, which made me aware that his books were being turned into movies.”
He further explained his manifestation experience, saying, “When I was newly arrived in Bombay and read The Three Mistakes of My Life, I made a wish to the universe. The book has three key characters, and I hoped to play one of them if a film adaptation was ever made. I didn’t specify which role, but I sincerely wished for it. And then Kai Po Che! came to fruition. It’s astonishing but true.”
