In Short:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Debut Won’t Feature Any Kind of Trophy or Achievement System
- Nintendo has officially confirmed in a recent interview that its next console won’t include the feature
- While it’s not standard, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom offer limited achievement-like features through the Nintendo app
It’s no surprise that Nintendo enthusiasts have a lengthy Wishlist. At the top, you’ll often find calls for an official Mother 3 translation or access to the entire Pokémon series on today’s hardware.
On the more realistic side, fans were hoping for a Wind Waker port to the Switch, which was finally confirmed during last week’s Switch 2 Direct.
As for the long-desired addition of Trophies or Achievements? Sadly, that still appears to be off the table for now.
Gamers Long Hoped for Some Kind of Achievement System
Nintendo has officially confirmed in a recent Polygon interview that its next console won’t incorporate a platform-wide achievement system, setting it apart from both PlayStation and Xbox.
How Breath of the Wild And Tears of the Kingdom Factor Into the Equation?
In the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, it was revealed that both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will include some form of achievements, giving fans a renewed sense of optimism that their long-requested feature might be taking shape.
The Nintendo app’s Zelda Notes feature will offer players a light achievement-style system, keeping tabs on milestones like shrine completions and locations discovered, somewhat echoing the functionality of Achievements or Trophies in other platforms.
According to Trinen, this feature appears to be a standalone addition tied solely to the app, with no signs of it expanding to other core Nintendo titles.
While it’s in line with Nintendo’s tradition of taking a different approach, many fans were still holding out hope for a broader achievement system.
