John Abraham On OTT Platforms Rejecting The Diplomat: “They Said It Wasn’t Good & Turned It Down”
John Abraham spoke about the response from studios and OTT platforms to his film. He explained, “The loss of confidence begins with the studio.
When a studio views a film, they might try to minimize their risk by pitching it to OTT platforms. However, some OTT platforms rejected The Diplomat because they didn’t think it was great. They didn’t find it good… They turned it down and dismissed it completely.”
John Abraham further revealed how audiences who watched The Diplomat had nothing but praise for the film. He said, “With The Diplomat, we’ve proven the studio, the OTT platforms, and everyone else wrong.
The beauty of this project was that expectations were nonexistent. When you go from zero not just to a two or three but all the way to a 10, people are blown away, saying, ‘This is unbelievable.’ Some have even told me, ‘Does the studio realize they have one of the best films of the last decade?’ That, for me, is a huge accomplishment.”
Under the direction of Shivam Nair, The Diplomat features John Abraham as diplomat JP Singh in a tale inspired by true events, with Sadia Khateeb as part of the cast.
The movie is co-produced by Rakesh Dang (Seeta Films), Jatish Varma (Fortune Pictures), Sameer Dixit, Rajesh Bahl (Wakaoo Films), Ashwin Varde, Vipul D. Shah, T-Series, and JA Entertainment. . It was released in cinemas on March 14.
